This rapid growth has produced substantial new insights, but has also spawned confusion and a host of methodological problems. In this paper, we review the value of fractal methods, in particular for applications to spatial ecology, and outline potential pitfalls. Methods for measuring fractals in nature and generating fractal patterns for use in modelling are surveyed. We stress the limitations and the strengths of fractal models. Strictly speaking, no ecological pattern can be truly fractal, but fractal methods may nonetheless provide the most efficient tool available for describing and predicting ecological patterns at multiple scales.

Fractal Population Ecology Theory
Abstract Purpose - The aim of this paper is to describe the population ecology theory through fractal thinking, an emergent human operating system that is creative, adaptive, healthy, and evolutionary; furthermore, a parallel is drawn between the population ecology model and the fractal structure. Top-down hierarchies are typically characterized by command and control systems of the authority t...
متن کاملUses and abuses of mathematics in biology.
In the physical sciences, mathematical theory and experimental investigation have always marched together. Mathematics has been less intrusive in the life sciences, possibly because they have until recently been largely descriptive, lacking the invariance principles and fundamental natural constants of physics. Increasingly in recent decades, however, mathematics has become pervasive in biology...

THE HYPOTHESIS, This survey compares the sexual behavior, the high risk sexual behavior and self-harm behavior of narcotic substance users (opium, crack, and heroin) with stimulants substance uses (ice, cocaine). METHOD, This survey is comparative-causative post test. The sample consisted of 265 substance abusers as intact subjects from different camps in Tehran who filled he sexual behavior q...

The sensitivity of landscape metrics to the scale effect is one of the most challenging issues in landscape ecology and quantification of land use spatial patterns. In this study, fractal dimension was employed to assess the effect of scale on the sensitivity of landscape metric in the north of Iran (around Sari) as the case study. Land use/ cover maps were derived from Landsat-8 (OLI sensor) i...
متن کاملPergularia tomentosa, from Traditional Uses to Ecology and Phytochemistry
Background: Pergularia tomentosa L. has several traditional uses and biological activities which need to be more investigated. Objective: In this study, some ecological and phytochemical properties of Pergularia tomentosa were assessed. The flavonoids and cardenolides in the aqueous extract of leaves were identified with LCMS techniques. Methods: Some quantity characteristics of P. tomentosa...
